Get It Done: Engineering Delivery

Already have a plan, design, specification, or clear technical direction?

The Get It Done package is for businesses that know what they need built and are looking for an experienced engineer to turn that plan into working software, firmware, electronics, tooling, or prototype hardware.

This service is suitable when the main thinking has already been done, but practical engineering delivery is needed to move the project forward.

Protoworks can help implement defined pieces of work such as internal tools, prototype electronics, firmware features, integrations, technical fixes, hardware test utilities, small PCB-related tasks, or improvements to an existing system.

The work can be arranged as fixed-price delivery for clearly defined tasks, or as pay-as-you-go engineering support for more flexible, evolving, or open-ended work.

Who this is for

This package is intended for businesses that already have a clear brief, plan, design, specification, or list of tasks.

It may be a good fit if you already know what you want built, but need someone practical and technical to help deliver it.

Typical examples include:

  • Building a defined software feature
  • Creating or improving an internal business tool
  • Implementing a known integration
  • Developing firmware for a specified board or device
  • Testing or bringing up a prototype PCB
  • Creating a small engineering utility or demo
  • Fixing a specific technical problem
  • Improving an existing software, embedded, or hardware system
  • Turning an existing design into a working prototype
  • Working through a defined technical backlog
  • Providing short-term engineering support when extra capacity is needed

What this package helps with

Protoworks can provide hands-on engineering support to take a defined piece of work from brief to implementation.

Depending on the project, this may include software development, firmware development, embedded systems work, prototype hardware support, test tooling, debugging, integration work, or technical problem solving.

The focus is on practical delivery rather than long discovery phases.

Delivery options

This service can be arranged as either fixed-price delivery or pay-as-you-go engineering support. Typically suited for projects starting from £1,000.

Fixed-price delivery works best when the task is clearly defined, with a known outcome and sensible acceptance criteria.

Pay-as-you-go support is better suited to flexible or evolving work, such as debugging, prototype bring-up, technical investigation, ongoing improvements, short-term engineering support, or working through a list of engineering tasks.

In both cases, Protoworks will review the brief first and suggest the most practical delivery approach.

What this is not for

This is not the best starting point if the project is still vague, exploratory, or not yet clearly defined.

If the idea still needs shaping, the Software Blueprint & Build Planning or Embedded & Hardware Project Scoping services may be a better first step.

The Get It Done package works best when the direction is already clear and the priority is implementation.

How it works

The first step is a short review of the existing plan, design, specification, task list, or technical problem.

From there, Protoworks can confirm whether the work is suitable for direct delivery, whether anything needs clarifying first, and whether the work is better handled as a fixed-price task or pay-as-you-go engineering support.

For tightly defined work, a fixed-price quote may be possible. For more flexible or evolving work, pay-as-you-go support may be more appropriate.

Typical deliverables

Deliverables depend on the nature of the work, but may include:

  • Working software or firmware
  • Prototype hardware brought up and tested
  • Updated source code
  • Integration code or utilities
  • Test scripts or engineering tools
  • Debugging notes or implementation notes
  • Practical recommendations for next steps

Good fit examples

This package may be useful when you have:

  • A design that needs implementing
  • A prototype board that needs testing
  • A software feature that needs building
  • A system integration that needs completing
  • A technical issue that needs investigating and fixing
  • An internal tool that needs developing
  • A small product or proof-of-concept that needs pushing forward
  • A backlog of technical tasks that needs steady engineering attention
  • A short-term need for practical engineering capacity
